What you'll learn in this tour class:

Step aboard the luxurious yacht Manhattan or Manhattan II for a full round-Manhattan cruise that takes an in depth look at the engineering marvels of New York City's fantastic, historic and wildly different bridges, tunnels, infrastructure and mass transit feats! Tour includes content on city planning, Robert Moses, housing and architecture as well!

This American Institute of Architects (AIANY) accredited tour is hosted by John Kriskiewicz, professor of Architecture and City Planning at Parsons and FIT.

Being low to the water and designed for comfort and small groups, guests are sure to have excellent views and photo opportunities. There is room for all in our elegantly appointed, cushioned and climate-controlled observatory, or guests may enjoy the outer teak decks when weather permits.

On this 2.75 cruise, you are treated to a complimentary beverage from the bar and light hors d' oeuvres.

Highlights along the way typically include:

  • Battery Park, South Street Seaport and the Financial District
  • Governor's Island, The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
  • High Bridge: as the city's oldest bridge, she was completed in 1842 to carry the Croton Aqueduct into Manhattan.
  • 7 swing bridges, 3 lift bridges and 4 arch bridges that span the Harlem River
  • Roosevelt Island, the United Nations Building, and the famous Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges of the East River
  • The Upper West Side and the majestic George Washington Bridge

So hop aboard the Manhattan or Manhattan II today for a cruise around the most famous island in the world!

AIANY Bridge, Architecture & Infrastructure Tour

Professor has a very nice cadence;he was quite enjoyable to listen to and he shared his wealth of knowledge nicely. The boat was the most comfortable boat I have been on in the Hudson. There was plenty of room both inside and out. The floor to ceiling windows allowed spectacular views from my seat inside. Although the weather wasn't "great" and was quite windy,we had the most enjoyable and relaxing cruise.

Outstanding class up to the Inwood section of Manhattan. We were unable to enter the Hudson because of construction on the Harlem River.River.

The check-in process was smooth and the on and off boarding was flawless. The boat/yacht itself was lovely and air conditioned on the super hot day. The boat was not crowded by any means. You had the option to sit in the A/C or sit outside and take in the salt air. Light-fare in the form of mini-croissants, granola and biscotti were offered. Beverages such as champagne was offered. The tour itself was incredibly informational and lead by the extremely informative and knowledgeable John Kriskiewicz. I definitely recommend this tour for those who are interested in learning about NY's various and varied history of old bridges and tunnels, railways, and urban planning. I thought we were only going to cover the west side but we went around the Manhattan Island. It was really cool to check out the Spuyten Duyvil Bridge. Trains runs along the track but it pivots open to allow boats to pass. What?! Definitely a great alternative to the brunch life.
